See the works of Frans Hals, the master of intimate portrait
Our group tour starts with the Frans Hals exhibition, where you will enter into the world of the Dutch Golden Age.
Unfortunately, it is not permitted for guides to tour within the exhibition.
However, we will provide you with tickets and assist your smooth entry into the exhibition. Once inside you will then take a self-guided tour through roughly 50 paintings of Frans Hals.
This truly special event, in partnership with The National Gallery in London, is the first major exhibition of Frans Hals’ work in 30 years.
Discover The Laughing Cavalier, The Lute Player and many more characters from the 16th Century
As you make your way around the intimate galleries, you will discover famous pieces such as The Laughing Cavalier, on loan from the Wallace Collection. His immaculate moustache and piercing blue eyes that follow you around the room are known the world over.
Nearby the merry, red-cheeked Lute Player strums away on his instrument, but what is he looking at? Whatever it may be, Frans Hals has captured a man happy with his music.
Amongst the collection are several works that have previously never been seen away from their own galleries. These include several militia and regent paintings on loan from the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem.
Once you have thoroughly explored the delightful works of Frans Hals, our guide will be waiting for you at the Rijksmuseum cafe. Here, should you wish, our guide will discuss the artwork you have just viewed, using digital imagery to assist in the experience. After refreshments, it’s onto the main museum.
Explore other Dutch Masters including Rembrandt
Together with your guide, you will then take a 2-hour guided tour of the Rijksmuseum. The highlight of this tour is the Gallery of Honour where you will find Rembrandt, Steen and Vermeer. The Nightwatch is very much the star of this gallery, but there are many more paintings for you to discover.
The museum library is also a favourite stop of our guides, who are very happy to adapt this tour to suit your wishes. If you would prefer a more light exploration of the museum, or perhaps an in-depth study of some of the works, we have the tour for you.
