About Johan Cruijff Arena

Frankey made this tribute to Johan Cruijff at the stadium that carries his name. It is inspired by Cruijff's famous lob against FC Den Haag in 1972: after scoring, he lifted the strap holding his shin guards, a gesture Frankey saw as a garland, so he turned it into a string of red and white pennants. Cruijff is the greatest Dutch footballer of all time and the father of Ajax's attacking style.

This Streetart Frankey artwork is on Johan Cruijff Arena, in Amsterdam Zuidoost.

It is one of 9 Streetart Frankey works on our map in Zuidoost. 2 other works are still in place within about ten minutes on foot, so this one is easy to combine with a short Frankey walk.

Frankey's pieces are small and easy to walk past. Once you reach the spot, look up and around: at drainpipes, street signs, bollards and window ledges. If you visit and the work has gone, please tap Gone on its card on the map, so we can keep the map up to date for everyone.

Het Parool wrote about this work in its Streetart Frankey column: read the article (in Dutch).
