Streetart Frankey in Amsterdam Zuid
Still there, as far as we know
Meneer de Uil, the wise owl from the much-loved Dutch children's series De Fabeltjeskrant, normally reads the newspaper. Frankey made him for ArtZuid 2023, the eighth Amsterdam Sculpture Biennale, as one of three works, and handed him Banksy's book Wall and Piece instead: the very book Frankey credits with starting it all for him.
Meneer De Uil is a Streetart Frankey artwork on Apollolaan, in Amsterdam Zuid. It appeared in 2023.
It is one of 99 Streetart Frankey works on our map in Zuid. 18 other works are still in place within about ten minutes on foot, so this one is easy to combine with a short Frankey walk.
Frankey's pieces are small and easy to walk past. Once you reach the spot, look up and around: at drainpipes, street signs, bollards and window ledges. If you visit and the work has gone, please tap Gone on its card on the map, so we can keep the map up to date for everyone.
Het Parool wrote about this work in its Streetart Frankey column: read the article (in Dutch).
Our guides know where Frankey's pieces hide. Ask us for a private street art walking tour and we will build the route around the art, Frankey's work very much included.
