A two-hour private tour of one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary art in the Netherlands. Mondrian, Malevich, Rietveld and more.
Located on Museumplein beside the Van Gogh Museum and close to the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk takes the story of art into the twentieth century and beyond. Its collection includes painting, sculpture, photography, design and installations, with works by Mondrian, Malevich, Rietveld, Appel and many other influential artists and designers.
Rather than trying to cover the entire museum in two hours, your guide will introduce you to a carefully chosen selection of highlights and the stories and ideas behind them. As this is a private tour, there is plenty of time to ask questions, focus on the artists, movements, and works that interest you most.
No previous knowledge of modern art is needed. Your guide will adapt the tour to you, helping to make even some of the museum’s more challenging works understandable and enjoyable.

Until 17th January 2027, the Stedelijk is presenting a major exhibition devoted to Yayoi Kusama, covering more than 70 years of her extraordinary career.
Best known for her polka dots, pumpkins and Infinity Mirror Rooms, Kusama also has a fascinating connection with Amsterdam. She first exhibited at the Stedelijk more than sixty years ago and spent considerable time in the Netherlands during the 1960s.
If you would like your private tour to focus primarily on the Yayoi Kusama exhibition, just let us know when booking.
Tickets for the exhibition often sell out, but your entry is included on this private tour, so you can still go inside. For full details see our guide to the Yayoi Kusama exhibition in Amsterdam.
The Stedelijk’s displays and temporary exhibitions change throughout the year, so there is always something new to discover. Your guide will tailor the two hours around what is on display and your interests rather than following a fixed route.
Last-minute bookings are often possible. If you’re already in Amsterdam and would like to explore the Stedelijk with a private guide, get in touch and we’ll do our best to arrange it.

On our private tour your timed entry is included, so you can still go inside, as a private tour for up to 7 guests. The exhibition runs until 17 January 2027.
The tour lasts two hours, giving you time to explore a carefully chosen selection of highlights without trying to cover the entire museum. For the Stedelijk itself, two to three hours is a comfortable visit: the permanent collection runs from Van Gogh and Mondrian through to contemporary work, and there is usually a major temporary exhibition on top of that. It is the larger of the two when you set it against the Van Gogh Museum, so if you only have one morning, two hours with a guide and a little time on your own afterwards works well.
Yes. This is a fully private tour with your own guide, so the visit can be adapted to your interests and questions.
Not at all. Your guide will explain the artists, movements and ideas in a clear and approachable way, whether you already love modern art or are completely new to it.
The collection includes works by artists and designers such as Mondrian, Malevich, Rietveld, Appel and even Van Gogh. The exact route depends on what is currently on display.
Yes. Where appropriate, your guide can include temporary exhibitions as part of your private tour.
Yes. Until 17 January 2027, your tour can focus primarily on the major Yayoi Kusama exhibition at the Stedelijk. Just let us know when booking.
Often, yes. The Stedelijk usually still has tickets available at short notice, so last-minute requests are possible, subject to guide availability. Tickets are included, and we arrange the timed entry for you. The Yayoi Kusama exhibition is busier: weekends are already sold out and weekdays sell out around two weeks ahead, so book that one as early as you can.
Yes. Every tour we run is private, so it can be built around limited mobility rather than squeezed into it. Tell us what you need when you book and we will plan the route, the pace and the stops around it: the car closer to each stop, shorter walking stretches, seated breaks, and step-free alternatives where they exist. Wheelchairs, walkers and prams are all fine. Where a particular site is genuinely not accessible we will say so before you book rather than let you find out on the day.
