All About Me:

Hi, I’m Michael. Originally from Leeds, I spent many years working in graphics and exhibition design before deciding to follow a long-standing passion for food. That decision eventually led me to Switzerland, where I opened a British cheese shop in Zurich and discovered that sharing great cheese was every bit as rewarding as enjoying it. Over the years, I have worked with some of the finest cheeses in Europe, managed one of Britain’s oldest cheese shops, and supplied everyone from royalty to musicians and politicians. Today, I call the Netherlands home and spend my time introducing visitors to the fascinating world of artisan cheese.

I lead all kinds of cheese experiences, from walks through Amsterdam’s markets and specialist cheese shops to tasting workshops, private cheese cruises and fully customised food adventures. Along the way, we might pair cheeses with Dutch wine, craft beer or non-alcoholic drinks, explore local food traditions, or simply enjoy discovering new flavours together. What I enjoy most is helping people feel more confident and curious about cheese, whether they are complete beginners or lifelong enthusiasts.

Although cheese is always at the heart of what I do, my experiences are also about discovering Amsterdam and the Netherlands through a different lens. I particularly love the quieter corners of the Jordaan, where village-like streets, independent cafés and hidden gems reveal a side of the city that many visitors miss. Beyond Amsterdam, I enjoy exploring the peaceful landscapes of Friesland and the northern islands. Good food, local culture and genuine conversation are what shape every experience I create.

My favourite place is…

If I had to choose a favourite place in the Netherlands, it would probably be Schiermonnikoog, one of the northern Wadden Islands. It takes a little effort to get there, which is perhaps part of the appeal. There are very few cars, the beaches seem to go on for miles, and life moves at a noticeably slower pace. I enjoy the sense of space, the sea air, and the feeling of being far removed from the crowds. It is a wonderfully understated place and, for me, one of the most relaxing corners of the country.
