What's the weather like in Amsterdam?

Amsterdam weather is famously changeable, it is not unusual to experience four seasons in a single day. A waterproof jacket is an essential item year-round. We recommend wearing layers so you can adapt easily, and comfortable shoes that can handle both rain showers and cobblestones.

What time zone is the Netherlands in?

The Netherlands uses Central European Time (CET, UTC+1) as standard time. During summer, Central European Summer Time (CEST, UTC+2) is observed. Amsterdam is typically 1 hour ahead of the UK and 6 hours ahead of Eastern US time.

What is the best way to get around Amsterdam?

Amsterdam is one of Europe’s most walkable cities, with most attractions within easy reach on foot. The public transport network (operated by GVB) is excellent, with metro, tram, and bus services running from Amsterdam Centraal. OV-chipkaart (the Dutch transit card) or contactless payment works on all services. Amsterdam is also one of the world’s great cycling cities — bike rental is widely available. Note that the city centre is largely car-free, so taxis are impractical in many areas. Free ferries cross the IJ river from behind Centraal Station to Amsterdam Noord.

What should I do in case of an emergency?

Call 112 for urgent emergencies — police, ambulance, or fire — in any life-threatening situation or if you witness a crime. For non-urgent police matters, call 0900-8844. The main Amsterdam hospitals with 24-hour emergency departments include OLVG and Amsterdam UMC.

What are dining times like in the Netherlands?

The Dutch tend to eat dinner early by European standards — most restaurants begin filling up from 18:00, with peak dining around 18:30–19:30. Many kitchens close by 21:00 or 21:30. If you prefer a later dinner, it is worth booking in advance and confirming kitchen hours. Lunch is typically served from 12:00 to 14:30.

Do I need cash in Amsterdam?

Amsterdam is largely cashless. Most shops, restaurants, and attractions accept contactless card payment. However, some smaller cafés, markets, and street vendors are cash-only. It is worth having a small amount of euros available as a backup. ATMs (pinautomaat) are widely available throughout the city.

Is Amsterdam accessible for visitors with mobility needs?

Amsterdam’s historic centre has many cobblestone streets and canal bridges that can be challenging for wheelchairs or pushchairs. What languages do your guides speak?

Our guides offer tours in English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. If you require a different language, please contact us — we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Are you exclusively a private tour company?

Our primary focus is private, bespoke experiences, but we are not exclusively private. We also offer a selection of shared and public tours, including our Anne Frank Neighbourhood tour, beer and cheese tastings, and Amsterdam canal experiences. Private tours remain our speciality, as they allow for fully tailored itineraries at your own pace.

We offer three main types of experiences: private tours (fully bespoke, your group only with a dedicated guide), shared small-group tours, and public tours. Do you offer multi-day tours?

Yes. We offer multi-day private tours across Amsterdam and the broader Netherlands, with options to include day trips to Delft, The Hague, Bruges, Ghent, and beyond. For multi-day itineraries, please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Is there a minimum group size?

No minimum. We welcome solo travellers and groups of any size. All private tours are available from a single guest upward.

Are tours suitable for families with children?

Yes. Our guides are experienced at tailoring tours for families, making Amsterdam’s history and culture engaging for all ages. Let us know when booking and we will adapt the itinerary accordingly.

Do you offer canal cruises?

Do you offer transfers and private car services?

Booking and Pricing

How do I book a tour?

For our ready-to-go off-the-shelf tours you can book directly online. For private, tailored, or multi-day experiences, we recommend getting in touch via our Plan Your Tour page so we can create the perfect itinerary for you.

How much do private tours cost?

Private tours start from approximately €220 for a two-hour experience. The final price depends on group size, duration, and any add-ons such as museum tickets, canal cruises, or transfers. Contact us for a personalised quote.

What is your cancellation policy?

Full refunds are available for cancellations made at least 7 days before the tour date, minus any non-refundable pre-purchased items such as museum tickets. Cancellations within 7 days of the tour are non-refundable. All cancellations must be submitted in writing. See our full Terms and Conditions for complete details.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept payment by bank transfer and major credit and debit cards. Full payment is required at the time of booking unless otherwise agreed. Contact us if you have specific payment requirements.

Do you work with travel advisors and agencies?

What commission do travel advisors receive?

We offer a standard 10% commission on all bookings. For high-volume partners or preferred agency relationships, please contact us to discuss a tailored arrangement.

Which host agencies do you work with?

We welcome bookings from members of all major host agencies, including Virtuoso, Fora, Ensemble Travel Group, Signature Travel Network, Travel Leaders, Cruise Planners, Nexion Travel Group, WorldVia, and KHM Travel Group. We are proud to be a preferred supplier for WorldVia and KHM Travel Group.

Do you offer white-label services for agencies?

Yes. We provide white-label tour services for luxury travel agencies and DMCs. Our experiences can be fully branded under your agency’s identity, from confirmation documents to guide introductions. Please contact us to discuss a white-label partnership.

How quickly do you respond to trade enquiries?

We aim to respond to all trade enquiries within 24 hours. For urgent requests, please note this in your message and we will prioritise accordingly.

Practical Information

What happens if it rains?

Amsterdam is a great year-round destination and tours run in all weather. We recommend bringing a waterproof layer. Your guide will adapt the pace and route to make the most of your time.

Where do tours start?

It depends on the tour. For our private and tailored tours, we typically come to you.  Your guide will meet you at your hotel, apartment, or another address of your choice. This makes the start of your day as easy as possible, with no need to find a meeting point in an unfamiliar city.

Some tours and experiences do have a central meeting point, which will be confirmed at the time of booking. Either way, your guide will always be in touch in advance with the exact details of where and when to meet.

What should we wear and bring?

Comfortable walking shoes are recommended — Amsterdam’s historic streets are cobbled in many areas. Bring a light waterproof jacket, especially in spring and autumn. Your guide will advise on anything specific for your chosen tour.

Is gratuity included?

Gratuity is not included in the tour price. If you enjoyed your experience, a tip for your guide is always appreciated but entirely at your discretion.
