Cheese Walk Group Tour from €110

Discover the best cheeses in town with our Cheese expert

This is the cheesiest tour of all and will tickle your tastebuds with some of the tastiest cheeses Amsterdam has to offer. Our cheese expert Michael aka ‘the Kaesenova’ will guide you around Amsterdam’s finest cheese shops, letting you smell and taste the cheeses so that you can create your very own ‘perfect cheeseboard’.

Taste a variety of cheeses under the guidance of our expert, self-confessed Cheese Lover

Once you have selected 5 or 6 cheeses, you will then make your way to either a Brewery Bar or Dutch Wine tasting room (depending on which tour version you have booked), to enjoy your perfect cheese selection.

As you savour the cheeses, Michael will explain a little about the processes involved in production, and also how the different flavour combinations work with the drinks. At the end of the tour, you will receive a booklet with information and tasting notes for the food and drink you have just experienced.

Should you wish to purchase some cheeses to take away with you, Michael will give you the best advice as to what you can travel with and how to keep it at the optimum freshness. If you don’t drink alcohol, that’s no problem at all as there are alcohol-free options for both tours.

The only question now is will you choose a wine or beer tour?

If you wish to explore more of Amsterdam’s Craft Beer scene, we have the perfect tour for you, our Brews and T’Ales Craft Beer Tour.

Price Includes

  • Taste 5 or more different cheeses
  • A beer or a wine pairing per Cheese
  • A Local Cheese Specialist as your tourguide

The Cheesiest Tour in Town An afternoon learning about cheese, what's not to love? Delicious cheeses with some great tips on how to cut and serve them from Michael the Cheese Lover. The building you do the workshop in is really old and historical, and that adds to the experience

I cannot say enough great things about out tours with Amsterdam Experiences! I had the chance to do Anne Frank's last walk, Pronk Tulip Experience, a welcome walk around the city, Canal Cruise with cheese tasting, Delft Pottery painting, a walk around the city of Gouda with a sirrupwafel factory tour and a guided tour at the Rijk museum. As a travel advisor, I was blown away with the professionalism and meaningful touches that they added to our trip. It was so memorable, and I know my clients are in great hands with Amsterdam Experiences. Thank you to Stephan and Katherine for being wonderful guides!

The Windmills of Zaanse Schans & Countryside Villages Group Tour: Kaleigh was adorable and enjoyed sharing her knowledge and passion! Although a quick trip, it was a fun exposure to Amsterdam's charm. It is a touristy tour, but it is enjoyable. The lunch was very tasty. Watching the wood cutting process at the Woodshop windmill was so interesting. Steven Leek at Cheese and Clogs was animated and fun!

Walking tour with Michael the Cheese Lover was AMAZING Loved the Cheese Lover tour! While he offers private tours, mine was not a private tour. There were eight of us in all. We enjoyed a casually paced walk through the city visiting two cheese shops and ending in a 300+ year old pub for the final tasting session. Throughout the tour we were invited to ask questions while Michael talked cheese and shared heartwarming and hilarious stories with us. He also pointed out landmarks of interest and various non-cheese related recommendations along the way. The vibe was friendly and educational, no sales pitches. Michael explained Dutch cheeses, cheese shops, transporting the cheese, what to look for in the types of cheese, what makes a good cheese board, the different cheese knives, how to cut/serve cheese and pairing with beer and wine. I don’t drink alcohol, but others in the group were very impressed and somewhat surprised (pleasantly) with his suggestions. Michael is approachable, entertaining, and knowledgeable. I recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys authentic experiences!

Our private tour of Zaanse Schans and Keukenhof with Parkinson's Disease This was our first visit to Amsterdam and my first trip abroad since my PD diagnosis, so I wanted to get some local help to ensure both I and my partner got the most out of our short tripI chose Bespoke Amsterdam Experiences as they offered all the activities we were interested in - food, tulips, windmills and boatsIt was very easy to make contact with them to ask questions - especially about my mobility issues and how this could be accommodated in the activities we were interested in. After the first contact, we had a dedicated person who handled all follow-up questions and bookings before and throughout our trip, which was very comforting and at no time was there any confusion or problem with language nuancesWe decided to do both the Private Tulips (Keukenhof) and Windmills (Zaanse Schans) tour together, as this was the main reason we chose to visit Amsterdam at this time and I did not want any problems with my mobility distracting my partner's enjoymentNote: If you have a UK blue badge, it is worth taking it with you along with the Dutch supplement notice you can print out, as it can help with parking at KeukenhofWe were met at our hotel by our guide for the day - Jeroen, promptly at the agreed time and taken by car first to Keukenhof. The day was wet and overcast and our guide Jeroen did his best to make sure we made the most of any breaks in the rain by driving us around some of the tulip fields until the rain eased up a little. After we arrived at the park, Jeroen explained the layout of the park, the best bits you must see and those that you can avoid, along with where to purchase tulip bulbs if we wanted to. After this, we were very kindly left to experience the colour, smell and sights of this wonderful park after agreeing on a time to meet back at the entranceThere was a lot to see this time of the year despite the rain and I had deliberately chosen not to use a wheelchair whilst I could still walk, albeit very slowly. This meant we initially did not have enough time to see everything, but Jeroen was very accommodating after a quick phone call, in adjusting our schedule to allow us more time at Keukenhof to see it all and most importantly time to purchase some tulip bulbs which are being delivered to our home later in the year. However, I am sure we still did not see everything as there were so many weaving paths and it was hard following our progress using the map in the rainWe then continued our journey onto Zaanse Schans, with our guide providing a very interesting history of the Netherlands as we travelledUpon arriving at the windmills, lunch was pre-booked at the local restaurant which served local food/drink as well as more international options - we can recommend the mustard soup and local beerZaanse Schans is made up of some working windmills, and several authentic houses that have been preserved/restored and moved to this park - some of which are privately owned, along with a clog museum, workshop and shop as well as a cheese museum. The windmills that are working do different tasks like saw wood, grindstone or crush cocoa into chocolate - we can recommend the make-your-own hot chocolate windmill along with the wood sawing windmill which has an accessibility lift allowing you to visit the different levels whilst it is in action (assuming it is windy enough)Again I chose not to use a wheelchair as it is all flat land, which worked OK as the park is smaller than Keukenhof, but be aware that steps in the Netherlands can be more like ladders to us in the UKWe were then driven back to our hotel after a thoroughly fun but exhausting day, along with some very helpful ideas from Jeroen of other gems to visit during our stay. We certainly got the best out of our time during this trip, due to the help and experience of our guide Jeroen

Hey you. Yes, you, you beautiful global traveler scouring the internet for tips and tricks ahead of your Amsterdam adventure. Well, congratulations. You found it. THE best tour and experiences company in all the Netherlands. My wife and I have just recently returned from a kid-free excursion to tulip country and let me say, Kathrine and the team at Amsterdam Experiences, helped orchestrate the most perfect getaway. From the private canal cruise aboard the stunning S.S. Lucy (Cheers to Capt Matthijs for hot mulled wine and delicious cheese!), to a bespoke guided tour of the Van Gogh museum by fellow CO native Kaleigh (So cheerful and knowledgeable!), to the unforgettable, personalized tour of the Red Light District from our new friend (and honorary Mayor of the area) Simon…we truly had the best trip as each person fully embraced us with local hospitality and the unmistakeable feeling of gezellig. We can’t wait to return. So, in summary, Kathrine rocks, her guides rock, Amsterdam double rocks, and you’ll be rocking too when you plan your visit with Amsterdam Experiences.

Beer + Rachael = ☺️👌🏻 Probably the highlight of our trip, Rachael is a hurricane of fun and enthusiasm. We visited places we wouldn’t have found, had superb snacks (Brian’s cheese was a personal favourite) and tasted some truly excellent beers. I book this kind of thing fairly often. I think it’s a great way to meet people and to learn a little about the city in a fun way. This has definitely been the best one I’ve done. And there’s been many 😂Just book it already!

Your tour was brilliant, we had an excellent time, such a great experience.( family of 3 with a 4 years old) You made everything so so easy and enjoyable for us. We got picked up at the exact hour from our place In Amsterdam. We then arrived shortly in Zaanse Schans where Ingrid was waiting for us. We then visited the windmills, cheese factory and clog shop .Ingrid got Scarlett a hot chocolate( the whole village of Zaanse Schans smelled of chocolate that morning) . After that we got in the cab and went for lunch ; had a lovely meal in this very nice restaurant ( burgers and salad) . Another ride after lunch and around 2 o’clock we got to Keukenhof where we had an amazing time . Spent there around 2 hours and we then headed back to Amsterdam. It was really that easy , we felt like celebrities being picked up from various locations and dropped off somewhere else :), minimum effort from our side but maximum satisfaction! We want to say a massive thank you to you and all your team! You were/ are great!

Amazing bike tour We did this tour at the start of March. It was amazing to see the countryside, the windmill and we loved to hear more about the traditional clog and cheese making at the farm. Thanks Lloyd for being a great guide! We will join again with our friends next year.

Cheese, Sweets, and Everything Inbetween This is a must do tour for anyone wanting a food tour mixed with a ton of culture and history along the way. Our guide drove the primary discussion but we were able to steer conversations to what we wanted to know and she had a ton of expertise on all of it. Every food place and item along the way felt well timed and all were delicious. I highly suggest this tour, but prepare for rain or shine as it truly is a lot of walking outdoors.

AWESOME! Our family experienced both a bicycle tour of Amsterdam with Stephan and a trip to the Unesco Heritage site of Windmills and a neighboring town of Edam (GREAT cheese!) with Christa. Our kids are 10 and 12, and all 4 of us had a blast in both adventures! Christa is extremely knowledgable of the local history, took us to the top of a windmill, had us sample local coffee, chocolate and cheese, while really making it all interesting for the adults and tweens. Both she and Stephan know their audience and know how to make a fantastic tour! Worth every penny. A wonderful way to 'see' unique parts of Holland from a local point of view. Thank you Amsterdam Experiences!

Top Notch Tours and Tour Guides My family (me, my husband, and our teenage daughter) did a private Gourmet Foodie Walk with Stephan and a private Jewish History Tour + Anne Frank with Monique, and both were amazing. We specifically wanted a private Foodie tour because we are fickle eaters, and Stephan was spot on with his selections for us. The food (herring, cheese, apple pie, stroopwaffle, and gin) and spending time with Stephan, sharing his knowledge of Amsterdam with us along the way, were delightful. We also valued our time with Monique, who carefully and thoughtfully described what the Jewish people went through in Amsterdam during WWII. She brought us to monuments and places that we would probably not have discovered on our own. We hugged her goodbye at the end of our tour. I would highly recommend Amsterdam Experiences - Stephan (the owner) is the type of person who will make things work out for you.

Hang out with a friend and drink some beer! I arrived from the U.S. earlier on the morning of the tour and I didn't know if I was going to catch my second wind in time for the tour. However, to my happy surprise, Rachael showed up with enough energy and enthusiasm for us both! I had so much fun on my brews and tales tour! Rachel is a great host and took us to some of the most unique spots (with unique local beers) in Amsterdam. Still not sure about the one that tasted like the grass in a sheep pen but hey, that's what tours are for right? I hate to even call it a tour because it was much more like hanging out and drinking beer with your local friend than a stuffy scripted tour, Plus, bitterballen, cheese, mustard, more cheese, more mustard, and some cheese!

Fun food tour. Wonderful way to explore the local cuisine and learn a bit of the Dutch culture. A small group of 8 which allowed our guide Stephan to interact with us all. Tastings of cheeses, bakery goods etc. gave a good example of different types of food available. Stephan was very knowledgeable and filled in between stops with history on the district. Tour was about 3 hrs but was an easy walk with stops along the way.

Interesting food tour Stephan was very authentic. He was very polite and was answering any questions we have asked. The food stops were nice and well choosen. The goat cheese was marvellous. He gave us a gift in the end, which was a nice gesture of him. This food tour is a MUST go.

Cheese Shop Walk and Tasting FAQ

More About Our Cheese Tasting Walk

Our Cheese Tasting Tour is created for guests who want a deeper experience of Dutch flavours, local shops, and food traditions. It offers far more than a simple tasting.

You are guided through one of the most charming neighbourhoods of Amsterdam, where you visit one or two specialist cheese shops known for their high-quality selection and knowledgeable staff.

On Saturdays, we will visit the market and get some of the best local cheeses from there.  With the help of your guide, you learn what makes Dutch cheese so distinctive, how different regions influence taste, and how to pair each cheese with wine or beer.

What You Will Learn?

Guests often join this experience because they want to understand the difference between mass-produced cheese and the artisan varieties that Dutch families enjoy at home. Your guide introduces you to traditional ageing methods, regional flavours, and the role of small-scale farmers.

You will also receive practical tips on how to choose good quality cheese, where to buy it in Amsterdam, and how to recognise the authentic shops from tourist-focused stores where factory cheese is sold as ‘authentic’.

What makes this Experience Different?

Many visitors are surprised by how personal and relaxed this Cheese Tasting Tour feels. The experience is led either by Michael, a respected cheese monger, or by one of the guides he has personally trained.

The tasting takes place in unique locations full of character, such as a three-hundred-and-fifty-year-old bar in Amsterdam or in a specialist shop with a dedicated tasting room that offers high-quality Dutch wines. Nothing is rushed. The focus is on flavour, storytelling, and enjoyment. This makes the experience suitable for families, couples, food lovers, and anyone curious about Dutch culinary traditions.

What does the Tasting Include?

During the Cheese Tasting Tour, you will enjoy a selection of Dutch cheeses. We will select at least 5 different cheeses (hard, soft, fresh, stinky, and blue). Each cheese is paired with wine or beer, and your guide explains the flavours, ageing methods, and regional characteristics. The tasting is created as a personal and informative experience rather than a simple plate of cheese.

How long is the Cheese Walk and Tasting Experience?

The Cheese Tasting Tour usually lasts about 3 hours, depending on the pace of the group and the level of interaction during the tasting.

Guests who want to extend their day can easily combine the Cheese Tasting Tour with a guided walk through one of Amsterdam’s historic neighbourhoods or with a private canal cruise. This is a popular choice for travellers who want to enjoy both local flavours and the beauty of the city.

Dietary Requirements?

We take dietary preferences seriously. With advance notice, we can adapt the tasting for guests who prefer goat or sheep cheese, need lactose-free options, or prefer non alcoholic drinks. Children who enjoy trying new foods are welcome too.
