Yes. If you have a guide in mind after reading their profile, mention their name when you book and we will do our best to arrange it. Availability is the only limit, and it gets tighter in spring and over the summer, so ask as early as you can. If your guide is not free we will tell you and suggest someone with a similar specialism rather than swapping quietly.
We put real thought into the match rather than sending whoever happens to be free. Some of our guides are strongest on art and museums, others on history, Jewish heritage or food. Some are wonderful with young children, others are better at winning over teenagers. Tell us who is coming and what you are interested in, and we will pair you with the guide we think fits, and say why.
Most private tours run in English. Across the team we also guide in Dutch, German, French and Spanish. Tell us which language you would like and we will match you with a guide who speaks it, subject to availability on your dates. If you need a language that is not on that list, contact us and we will do our best to arrange it.
Our guides are professional working guides, most of them full time. Between them the team includes art historians, a professional photographer, a cheese specialist and guides with academic backgrounds in history and tourism. The Netherlands does not operate a compulsory national licence for city guides, so we select on experience, knowledge and how well someone works with guests.

Usually yes, and many guests like the continuity. If you are booking two or three days with us, tell us and we will try to keep the same guide throughout so you are not starting from scratch each morning. Equally, it can be nicer to meet different guides, since each brings their own specialism and their own side of the city. Tell us which you would prefer.
It depends on the tour. For museum tours we usually meet at the museum itself. For full day tours it is normal for your guide to collect you from your hotel, from Schiphol Airport or from your ship. We also meet guests at the river cruise moorings and at the ocean cruise terminals in Amsterdam, IJmuiden, Rotterdam and Zaandam.
Many do, and some particularly enjoy it. Several of our guides are experienced at working with children in museums, and others are good at keeping teenagers interested. If you are travelling as a family, say so when you book and we will match you accordingly.
