All About Me:
Hi, I’m Thomas. I was born and raised in Amsterdam and grew up in an old canal house in the Jordaan, one of the city’s most characterful neighbourhoods. Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the stories hidden behind Amsterdam’s façades and the history that shaped the city around me. That curiosity eventually turned into a career. After studying Tourism Management with a focus on destination marketing, I discovered that guiding was the perfect way to combine my love of history, storytelling and meeting people from around the world.
What I enjoy most is helping visitors experience the Netherlands through a local’s eyes. Alongside Amsterdam’s famous landmarks, canals and museums, I love introducing guests to the hidden corners that many travellers never discover. Having spent my entire life in and around the city, I enjoy sharing lesser-known neighbourhoods, tucked-away courtyards and fascinating stories that rarely make it into guidebooks.
I also specialise in driving tours across the Netherlands, allowing guests to explore far beyond the usual tourist trail. From historic towns and rural landscapes to remarkable feats of engineering, I enjoy connecting places and stories into a wider picture of Dutch life and history. One of my favourite subjects is water management, the network of dykes, dams and pumping stations that has shaped the country for centuries. Curiosity, enthusiasm and a genuine love for the Netherlands shape every tour I lead.

One of my favourite places in the Netherlands is not a single city or landmark, but the country’s extraordinary water management system. I am particularly fascinated by the Afsluitdijk, the immense causeway that separates the North Sea from the IJsselmeer. Standing there, with the sea on one side and a vast freshwater lake on the other, gives a real sense of the ingenuity and determination that helped create the Netherlands as we know it today.
