Zwolle has eight museums, and the best known has a glass cloud on the roof.

Museum de Fundatie sits in the old Palace of Justice, and in 2013 an elliptical glass-tiled dome was added on top of it to hold the upper galleries. It is the building people photograph and a serious art museum underneath.

The city’s other claim is Herman Brood, the painter and musician who was born here, and whose work and life are documented in the city he never quite left.

Three of the eight accept the Museumcard. None open every day.

  • Museum de Fundatie. Art from the nineteenth century to now, under the glass dome.
  • ANNO Stadsmuseum Zwolle. The city’s own history, told through objects.
  • Het Vrouwenhuis. A historic house museum tied to women’s history and charitable foundations, with interiors intact.
