It is as accurate as the ship’s own signal. Every river cruise vessel broadcasts its position over AIS, the same system commercial shipping uses, and we show the latest signal received along with the time it was sent. If a ship has gone quiet, you see her last known position. We will never use guesswork to produce tracking information.
We track a set list of river cruise vessels on the Rhine, the Moselle and the Danube. Ocean ships are not included. If your ship sails a different river, is new to the fleet, or has her transponder switched off/out of range, she will not appear. Clear any filters and search the name on its own before assuming it is missing. If it still doesn’t appear, then send us the name, and we will look at adding her.
We listen for new AIS signals throughout the day and refresh locations several times per day. The time under each ship tells you when that vessel was last heard from, which is not always the same as when the page last updated.
Almost certainly not. Reception varies along the river, and a ship sitting in a lock, passing under bridges or working through a quiet stretch can drop out of coverage for a while. Rather than hide that, we keep showing the last known position and tell you when it was seen. It does mean this is not a timetable: treat it as a tracker showing where she is now, not when she will arrive.
