All About Me:
Hi, I’m Gonzalo. I’m originally from Chile, a beautiful, landscape-oriented country full of lakes, mountains, and amazing wineries. After finishing school, I moved to Paris for about a year, soaking up the culture and the energy of the city. Then I spent ten years in New York, where I studied filmmaking and started my career in the film industry. Eventually, I returned to Chile, working in TV and film for a while, before deciding to follow a new path as a freelance guide.
Moving to the Netherlands eight and a half years ago was a decision inspired by my love for European cities. Amsterdam struck me as the perfect balance of busy city life and human-scale charm. It’s full of culture, bicycles, canals, and a relaxed, friendly pace. I love showing people around, sharing stories, and revealing the hidden corners of the city that even locals might not know.
When I guide, I aim to create a tour that’s both informative and fun. I cover everything from history and architecture to quirky local facts, humour, food, and even a bit about the weather and royalty. I try to avoid a rigid script, so each tour can adapt to the group’s interests even if it’s just a casual wander through the streets of the Jordaan or a deep dive into the Golden Age. I especially enjoy guiding people to lesser-known spots, encouraging them to explore outside the main canal ring and experience Amsterdam like a local.
Outside of guiding, you’ll usually find me wandering the city, zigzagging through narrow streets, discovering secret courtyards, hidden canals, and tiny houses tucked away in quiet alleys. I live in Jordaan – charming, cosy, and full of life, yet away from the tourist crowds. I love seeing people fall in love with the city, and I hope my tours give them the context and inspiration to explore further on their own.

Amsterdam City Highlights – walking
My favourite place in Amsterdam has to be the Plantage. It’s a bit off the beaten track, which is exactly why I love it. Once you step out of the canal ring and wander into the neighbourhood, the city suddenly breathes differently. It’s greener, calmer, wonderfully local, and has this slightly quirky, lived-in charm that reminds me why I fell for Amsterdam in the first place. After a tour I’m always encouraging people to head that way, because if you really want to feel the city beyond the tourist bustle, that’s where Amsterdam shows its true colours.
