Classic and Modern Architecture

When thinking of Amsterdam, the classic canal houses quickly come to mind. It tells the story of the Dutch merchant and their overseas trade.

Yet, there is a plethora of other buildings waiting to be discovered. From old citadel watchtowers, to spacious warehouses, a windmill, old and contemporary bridges, and a number of modern-day buildings.

On this tour, we don’t only guide show the historic buildings. Your knowledgeable guide / storyteller takes you to ‘KNSM Eiland’, known for its modern architecture. There is a fair bit of walking involved, but we also take you on the tram to make the journey go by a more smooth. We can also take you to for a locally-brewed beer in a windmill turned brewery during the tour at our Architecture Tour Amsterdam.

Knowledgable Guides

All of the guides who run this tour have a background in architecture. They take you through architecture through the ages and can do a deep dive on any building that draws your attention.

Our guides are hand picked for their friendliness, knowledge, and personality. They will do anything to make you feel like you are exploring the city with a friend.
Please let us know if you have any special requests or a specific building you want to see.

Ideal Way to End An Amazing Journey Amsterdam is an amazing city. It's fascinating and important place in European history, evidenced with the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank Haus, canal rides etc, make Amsterdam equal to, or better, than Paris, Rome, and London. In our five glorious days we thought we had done it all, so on our last day in Amsterdam and our trip, my wife booked the perfect ending with the Craft Beer Tour 🍺. First and foremost, our guide Michael, was far and above the best guide we had not just in Amsterdam, but our entire 18 day European trip. Not only was he the most, friendly and interesting, but his vast and expansive knowledge in not just the Amsterdam craft beer scene but in Dutch art, architecture, cultural history knew no bounds. Add to that, the best beers my wife and I have ever enjoyed, made this one of the highlights of our vacation. This established, we enthusiastically give our highest recommendation to Michael and we personally thank him for concluding our trip with an unexpected highlight of our amazing journey.

Amsterdams City Highlights & Hidden Gems Small Group Walking Tour Small group of 12 for a walking tour. Learned lots of Amsterdam history and saw lots of great architecture. Don’t actually go into any sites during the tour. One stop for coffee and break during the three hours. Guide will adjust walk based on participants.

Fabulous tours of Amsterdam Chris Page was the best tour guide we have had in any city anywhere in the world. Literally. Our family spent two days touring Amsterdam with Chris and parted from him like a family member. He took us to Delft/The Hague and also the Jewish Quarter/Anne Frank Museum. His deep affection for the Netherlands and detailed knowledge of Dutch history, art, architecture and industry made the hours fly by and enriched our understanding of the magnificence we visited. He is a kind human being and we would hope to visit this area with him in the future. We recommend him and this company very highly!

Extraordinary tour with extraordinary guide! Conny is an outstanding tour guide, making this a fantastic experience that I will always remember fondly. I took the Jewish History and Anne Frank private tour with my 14-year-old son, and while the tour is expensive, it's completely worth it. Conny brings a lifelong wealth of knowledge in art, architecture, and the history of Amsterdam, both modern and historical. She has a deep sense of history and the experience of Jews during WWII, which she communicates with empathy. She thoughtfully pointed out interesting aspects of Amsterdam's architecture and construction techniques, adjusting the tour as needed to ensure a cohesive experience from start to finish. We gained a deep understanding of Amsterdam, and she even took us to her favorite spots for herring and a pub with delicious Dutch apple pie. Conny is incredibly kind and even recommended a great Indonesian restaurant. This was an excellent adventure; highly recommended.

I met Stephan and Katherine on a recent adventure to Amsterdam. Our group spent most of the day with him on a fantastic tour of his beautiful homeland. He is passionate about his country, its history and the people. He is a skilled storyteller, really putting you in the moment whether your learning about the strong Jewish history, the wars or the architecture of the city. The other tour guides that work with him are also excellent! They have high expectations for their guides and consistently deliver an excellent experience. Whether you want a walking historical tour, a foodie tour or a bike tour, Bespoke Amsterdam Experiences will deliver beyond your expectations.

Vermeer and private Rijksmuseum tour with great guide: Edgar We got tickets to the Vermeer exhibit through this company, which included an excellent Rijksmuseum tour led by Edgar. We were met outside the museum right on time by Katherine, who got us straight into the Vermeer exhibition It was just the two of us and 1 other person. We met Edgar in the museum cafe after we spent 2 hours going through Vermeer, as guides are not allowed in that exhibition. He tailored our 90 minute Rijksmuseum tour to our interests while showing us highlights of the collection, including a discussion of the Vermeer exhibit, what is being learned about Rembrandt during the current restoration of "The NIghtwatch", how events in Rembrandt's life influenced his art, and similarities and differences among Dutch artists through paintings on view. Edgar is very knowledgable and a really nice person. He also has a strong background in the city's more modern architecture, specifically the Amsterdam school, and key locations for activities of the Dutch Resistance during World War II, so we spent extra time with him on these subjects. Edgar made a wonderful day with great art even better through his depth of knowledge, his love of these subjects and his joy in sharing and discussing them. Very satisfied with this tour company, and highly recommend Edgar as a guide.

What absolutely phenomenal tours I have taken with Stephan van der Meer! I love period architecture, so when Stephan did a tour to Bruges and Ghent, I was very intrigued. Utterly beyond my imagination! Every turn we took was more gorgeous than the last one. Stephan keeps up a fabulous dialogue during the tour and has a wonderful rapport with his guests. He is very creative and a wonderful raconteur. His pre-tours are so interesting and his soundtracks never fail to please the crowd that he always acquires on his tours. He also has a knack for setting up beautiful photo views as well. I cannot recommend Stephan enough: an absolute pleasure in every way!

Fantastic day We had an absolute fantastic day with Kaleigh! She was so friendly and fun to be with, and had so much knowledge about the city, the architecture and the history. We just strolled the streets, talked about what we saw, and enjoyed every minute! We finished the day at a cafe, and it was sad to say goodbye! She tought us so much, not only about Amsterdam, but also Amsterdammers. This was the absolute highlight of our trip, and worth every penny.

Each walk zooms in on a different neighborhood. The pockets of urban variety are really surprising. It's a great way to learn more about the beautiful city where I live. The walks are safe and informal. The local guides come at it from their particular perspectives, adding a layer to the stories along the way rooted in history and architecture. Ending with a terrace drink together is a very nice way to cap it off. Informative, physical and gezellig! Great recipe

I will be taking more friends on this tour My wife’s sisters were visiting for a bit, and I wanted to book something special for them to see Amsterdam. They weren’t especially excited about a museum tour at first, but they had so much fun! (So did I!) it was such an interesting tour that covered secrets of the museum, architecture, information about the building itself, and a load of fun conversation about a lot of the art! If you, your guests, or your children appreciate art but you are looking for a way to make the trip feel more accessible and engaging, this is the way to do it.

What a great way to spend an afternoon We loved our tour with Vince. He was so knowledgeable about the history and architecture of the neighborhood. We were all able to laugh and chat with him as we were on the tour, and he even gave some great tips on where to take a date! Some of the subject matter was pretty heavy, but I didn't feel like it was overwhelming. If you are looking for a cool walking tour as a way to learn about history, but also want to learn about some other cool details about the city - like where to get the best apple pie - then this is a really great tour for you and your family. I would definitely recommend it for all ages.

Vince was a great host. He is very passionate and has great empathy. We all felt involved. We walked around the Jewish quarter and learned a lot about the Jewish culture in the pre war and WWII period. Some monuments and buildings are emotionally moving. We also learned more about Amsterdam and it’s architecture and canals. The tour ends at the Anne Frank house museum which is very touching. A great experience to have. I strongly recommend this tour to everyone!!

Great experience checking out local hidden gems! I really enjoyed the food tour with Stephan. I was a solo traveler and, with Stephan and another couple of folks in the group, it felt less like a tour and more like friends hanging out, chatting, and snacking along the way. Stephan took us through Jordaan and a few other neighborhoods, gave us tidbits about history, architecture, Amsterdam life in general - all interspersed by stops at a fantastic local bakery, cheese shop, herring cart, a neighborhood farmers market, and more. Food (included in tour cost!) was already being prepared for us when we got to each stop. Stephan is friendly, knowledgeable, well-organized, and passionate about local culture. Highly recommend, and I'll be back for other tours with him when I make it back to Amsterdam.

Great and fun tour with Sarah! My husband, 23 year old daughter and I went and we had a great time! We went to a variety of places and got a nice taste of Amsterdam that we otherwise would not have discovered. Sarah is so personable and easy to talk to and a wealth of information about Amsterdam on topics beyond music and drinking, including the history of the Jordaan and architecture. Our group also was great; even when Sarah had to leave we continued on to dance at the Melkweg (Milky Way) till 1:00am! The rest of the group stayed out even later!

BIke trip worth every Euro! I have taken my share of bike tours over the years, but there is no comparison to the tour we took with Stephan. He created a tour that showcases areas of the city you might miss, because they aren't the usual Amsterdam tour stops. The tour was intimate enough that you don't get lost in the shuffle and he patiently explains questions about Dutch culture--food, architecture, art, history. Stephan is also witty and he seemed to gage the interests of the group to point out areas of the city not to miss. And the reward of having a beer at the end of the ride was the cherry on top! We can't wait to come back and take the other tours he has available!

Great experience I had the pleasure of taking the bike tour with Stephan and I honestly have been recommending it to everyone ever since. It was a birthday gift to a friend of mine and first of all it’s really fun to experience the city from a biker’s point of view, it feels local, moreover Stephan is a super friendly host and in a matter of minutes makes you feel at ease. The tour in itself is extremely interesting, safe and well planned. There’s something for everyone: art, history, local culture, architecture, folk. I must say, can’t recommend it enough. And it’s a great opportunity to ask for informations and suggestions for other activities and events in Amsterdam since you get to meet other people who share the tour with you. If you’re looking for an enjoyable afternoon, this is really a must!

Off the beaten path! Stephan is a wonderfully friendly guy. So knowledgable about so many different things. He took our small group to sites around Amsterdam that you potentially would miss out on if you are just following the tourist guides. He gives some in-depth explanations about the architecture of the canal houses and the timeline of the development of Amsterdam. He also took us on a ferry ride to the North Amsterdam area where you can see the street artwork scene and one of the most expensive AirBnB places which is fashioned inside a crane near the water. Finishes off with hanging out at one of the micro-breweries having some drinks and lively discussion. Definitely recommend!
