All About Me:
Hi, I’m Anne. I am originally from Germany, and for many years my work centred around art and yoga. I have always been drawn to creative work and to experiences that help people see the world a little differently. Alongside guiding, I still work as an artist, and that creative side of me very much shapes the way I experience Amsterdam. I started guiding a few years ago and quickly realised how much I enjoyed it. It gave me the chance to work outdoors, meet people from all over the world, and share a city that continues to surprise me.
I guide both walking and cycling tours in Amsterdam, and I enjoy showing people not just the well-known sights, but also the parts of the city that feel a little more local and unexpected. My background as an artist definitely influences the way I guide. I tend to notice details in architecture, atmosphere, and design, and I like helping guests see how much character Amsterdam has beyond its postcard image.
One of the things I especially enjoy is Amsterdam School architecture. The Amsterdam School was an early twentieth-century architectural movement known for its expressive brickwork, sculptural shapes, decorative details, and strong social ideals. I’m drawn to it not only because the buildings are so striking, but also because of the ideas behind them and the sense that architecture was meant to improve everyday life. Amsterdam South is one of the areas I find especially interesting for that reason, and I also love parts of Amsterdam North and the Amstel, which feel a little less obvious but have a lot of character.
When I’m not guiding, I’m usually happiest doing something active, cycling, walking, or heading out into nature. I love the dunes, being outdoors, and discovering places that feel a little removed from the busiest parts of the city. For me, guiding is about helping people get a feel for Amsterdam as a lived-in place, not just a list of landmarks, and showing them some of the places and details that make it special.

Amsterdam City Highlights – walking & by bike
My favourite place in Amsterdam is along the Amstel river, especially the stretch south of the city centre. I like that area because it feels a bit more open and less hectic than the downtown, and there are some lovely spots along the water that people often miss. It is a great place to walk or cycle, and I always enjoy the mix of greenery, houses, and little corners that do not feel overly polished or crowded. Even in a city I know well, it is one of those places that still feels relaxed and easy to return to
