All About Me:

Hi, I’m Michael. I’m from the UK and have been living in the Netherlands for over ten years. Guiding began for me quite naturally. When I first moved here I spent a lot of time in cafés and around the city, and visitors would often start conversations and ask me about local life. Before long I found myself showing people around, sharing stories, and helping them discover places they might never have found on their own. I realised how much I enjoyed this connection with people and decided to turn guiding into my profession.

My background has always been centred on working closely with people and creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I am also an artist and a musician, with experience in acting and coaching, and all of this shapes the way I guide. I like to absorb a lot of information and present it in a way that feels engaging, personal, and memorable. My tours are not only about facts. I want guests to feel cared for, to gain real insight into the city, and to leave with ideas and inspiration to explore further.

Some of my most rewarding work takes place in the museums, especially the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. I enjoy helping guests look at art through the lens of creativity and emotion, noticing the mood of the artist and the stories hidden within the details. It is particularly satisfying when people who never saw themselves as “museum people” leave feeling inspired and newly curious.

Outside work I love being outdoors, cycling into the countryside, and spending time by water, which always makes me feel calm and grounded. When I guide, I try to treat my guests as I would visiting friends or relatives. I aim to create an experience that feels friendly, thoughtful, and personal. Guiding allows me to combine curiosity, creativity, and care for people, and I feel fortunate to share the Netherlands in this way. If my guests leave feeling both enriched and at home, then I know the tour has been a success.

You can take the following tours with me:

Anne Frank’s Last Walk

Amsterdam City Highlightswalking & by bike

Guide for the Day

The Ultimate Amsterdam in a Day Tour

Rijksmuseum Tour

Van Gogh Museum Tour

Cheese Walk with Tavern, Wine Shop or Cruise

Brews & T’Ales

Amsterdam’s Ghostly Experiences Tour

My favourite place in Amsterdam is Amstelpark. I love going there to unwind, to sit near the flowing water, and sometimes to play the outdoor piano that stands in the park. It feels peaceful, open, and alive at the same time, and it is the spot I choose when I need a little nature and quiet inside the city.

Ideal Way to End An Amazing Journey Amsterdam is an amazing city. It's fascinating and important place in European history, evidenced with the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank Haus, canal rides etc, make Amsterdam equal to, or better, than Paris, Rome, and London. In our five glorious days we thought we had done it all, so on our last day in Amsterdam and our trip, my wife booked the perfect ending with the Craft Beer Tour 🍺. First and foremost, our guide Michael, was far and above the best guide we had not just in Amsterdam, but our entire 18 day European trip. Not only was he the most, friendly and interesting, but his vast and expansive knowledge in not just the Amsterdam craft beer scene but in Dutch art, architecture, cultural history knew no bounds. Add to that, the best beers my wife and I have ever enjoyed, made this one of the highlights of our vacation. This established, we enthusiastically give our highest recommendation to Michael and we personally thank him for concluding our trip with an unexpected highlight of our amazing journey.

Best tour ever By far the BEST tour we have taken ever. Michael was very knowledgeable, polite and an excellent guide. The virtual reality portion of this tour was fantastic. It takes you right into the house where Anne and her family hid for 25 months. It has quotes from her diary all around the house you can listen to. We loved this tour and highly recommend it to anyone over only going on the museum. The VR is a game changer.

The Cheesiest Tour in Town An afternoon learning about cheese, what's not to love? Delicious cheeses with some great tips on how to cut and serve them from Michael the Cheese Lover. The building you do the workshop in is really old and historical, and that adds to the experience

A fantastic tour and a great alternative to the Anne Frank House, which was unfortunately already fully booked. Our guide Michael made the tour very interesting, and the virtual tour of the Anne Frank House was a perfect ending.

An interesting and successful alternative! A great alternative to the Anne Frank House, which was unfortunately sold out… our guide Michael made the walking tour very informative and interesting, telling us not only about Anne Frank and her family, but also about the era in which they lived. The virtual tour of the family's living quarters was a perfect ending and gave us a good impression of what their living conditions must have been like. Highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of Anne Frank's last walk with Michael. He skillfully conveyed the horrific story she and her family endured. The virtual reality tour of the annex was disturbingly realistic!
