At times it has been visible behind a glass enclosure while conservators work, which many visitors find fascinating in its own right. Pierre Cuypers designed the building to be read alongside the collection, so the sightlines, the light and the placement of the Gallery of Honour are all deliberate. Your guide will also point out the cycle passage running straight through the middle of a national museum, which says a great deal about Amsterdam, and if the timing is lucky you may catch one of the free classical performances at the entrance.
