All About Me:
Hi, I am Stephan.
I am a tour guide and the founder of Amsterdam Experiences, and what I love most about my work is sharing stories in a way that feels warm, personal, and genuinely engaging. Before I became a guide, I spent many years in the tech and strategy sector, working with museums, cultural organisations, and public institutions. That background shaped my approach to storytelling and taught me how important it is to stay true to real history and reliable facts, while still sharing them in a way that feels lively and meaningful for my guests.
I began guiding in 2016 because I wanted to show visitors a more personal side of Amsterdam. My tours are based on carefully researched history and high-quality content, but I never want them to feel like a classroom lecture. I combine accurate facts with a relaxed, human style of storytelling, so guests can learn about the city while feeling comfortable and at ease, as if they are exploring it with a local friend.
During the pandemic, I continued guiding through a series of virtual tours, which helped me stay connected with travellers worldwide and deepened my knowledge of cities across the Netherlands. Although I now spend part of my time supporting and developing the team, I still love being out on tour whenever I can, in Amsterdam and in places that are part of my own life, including Leiden, Delft, Rotterdam, and The Hague. For me, guiding is about balance: knowledge you can trust, shared in a way that feels alive, welcoming, and deeply personal.
You can take the following tours with me:

One of my favourite places in Amsterdam is Westerpark. The old gasworks buildings, once purely industrial, have been transformed into a cultural space with small restaurants, an art-house cinema, and community events, and I find that combination of history and new life especially inspiring. It is a place where I often go to unwind, to think, and to feel connected to the city and the people who live in it. I also love the way it brings together everyday local life, nature, and creativity in one place.
