Why choose an Airport Layover Tour in Amsterdam or Rotterdam

A long layover is the perfect chance to experience a new city or the beauty of the Netherlands. With our private tours you avoid the stress of navigating public transport or guessing how long things take. We plan the route around your flight schedule and show you highlights that fit your interests. Whether you want a peaceful walk along the canals, a short visit to a museum or a taste of Dutch food, everything is arranged with care.

How the layover tour works

Your guide will welcome you at Schiphol or Rotterdam Airport and assist with the short transfer into Amsterdam or Rotterdam. From there you explore the city at a relaxed pace, visiting key sights and enjoying stories that bring the city to life. When the tour ends your guide brings you back to the airport with plenty of time for security and boarding.

What you can see during a layover at Schiphol

Amsterdam has a compact centre filled with history and character. Depending on your available time you can explore the canal district, see the Anne Frank House from the outside, visit the Jordaan neighbourhood or enjoy a local café. If time allows you may also visit one of the smaller museums for a short cultural stop. But we can also take you to the Countryside, show you the tulip fields in April and May or visit the beautiful city of Leiden.

Who these tours are ideal for

Our layover experiences suit solo travellers, couples, families and business travellers who prefer comfort, flexibility and a personal approach. It is a simple way to turn waiting time into a meaningful experience without any stress.

Frequently Asked Questions Layover Tours

How long should my layover be?

We recommend a layover of at least five hours. This gives enough time for airport procedures, transport and a pleasant visit to the city. Make sure to let us know the time of your next flight!

Where will my guide meet me?

Your guide meets you in the arrivals hall at Schiphol with a clear sign displaying your name. Together we take the train (that is the fastest option) or have transport ready to drive into the city. For other locations we are using luxury cars and your driver guide will take you around.

Do I need to carry my luggage?

If you arrive with hand luggage only you can take it with you. Schiphol also offers secure luggage storage for larger suitcases.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

We monitor your arrival time and adjust the start of the tour whenever possible. If a delay becomes too long we will discuss a suitable alternative.

Do I need a visa to leave the airport during my layover?

If you hold an EU, US, Canadian, Australian or UK passport you can leave Schiphol without any issues. Travellers who require a Schengen visa to enter the Netherlands may not be able to join a layover tour unless they already hold the correct documentation. If you are unsure, please contact us before booking and we can help you check.

How long does it take to get from Schiphol to Amsterdam city centre?

The direct train from Schiphol to Amsterdam Centraal takes about 17 minutes and runs every few minutes throughout the day. By car the journey takes roughly 25 to 35 minutes depending on traffic. We always factor travel time into your tour plan so you make the most of every minute.

What can I do with a short 2 to 3 hour layover?

A 2 to 3 hour layover is enough for a quick but memorable introduction to Amsterdam. We can take you for a walk through the city centre, along the canals, and past the main landmarks. A private canal cruise is also a lovely option within this timeframe. Browse the tours above and filter by duration to find what fits your schedule.

What can I do with a longer layover of 6 hours or more?

With 6 or more hours at Schiphol you have real flexibility. You can explore Amsterdam in depth, visit a museum, or combine the city with a day trip to a windmill village, the tulip fields in spring, or the charming city of Haarlem. If your layover is long enough we can even take you to Rotterdam, Giethoorn or Belgium for a full day out.

Is there a minimum group size for a layover tour?

No minimum group size. We specialise in private tours so whether you are travelling solo, as a couple, with a family, or a larger group, we arrange everything personally for you. Pricing depends on the number of participants, and we are always happy to tailor the experience to your needs.
