Most guests book a private tour for the extra time they have in Amsterdam around their cruise, for the day before boarding the Riverside Debussy or after disembarkation. The Debussy often starts and ends its Rhine and Danube itineraries here, so a night or two in the city is usually part of the trip.
On the docked days, the Netherlands is yours to explore. We arrange a private guide and a driver or boat where needed, around your interests: the canals, the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, or a day trip out of the city to Keukenhof, Zaanse Schans or Haarlem, for example. No coaches, no regimented group excursions, and we help with transfers and restaurant tips too.
Back on board in good time, guaranteed. We plan the day around your ship’s schedule and always have you back well before all aboard. The easiest way to plan is to get in touch with us, and we will build your day around your itinerary.
We are an official tour supplier for the Riverside Debussy. Amsterdam Experiences is one of the suppliers for tours offered to guests on board, and we are proud that Riverside trusts the quality of our private tours for their programme.
If your itinerary includes an Amsterdam port call during the cruise itself, we can arrange a private excursion for that day too. Your guide meets you at the gangway and has you back on time.
The schedule below is filtered from the central river cruise calendar and updates automatically.
Riverside ships berth centrally in Amsterdam. These are the berths used for Riverside calls, so you know where your guide will meet you. The exact berth for your sailing is shown in the schedule above.
Piet Heinkade, city centre · 20 min walk to Centraal
Right on the IJ waterfront in the city centre, a 10 minute walk or one tram stop from Central Station. LP is your berth number, and “via Muziekgebouw” or “via Vriesseveem” simply tells you which walkway leads to your gangway.
Behind Central Station, west side · 5 min walk to Centraal
Behind Amsterdam Central Station, on the west side, so you are inside the station within 5 minutes of stepping ashore. The Dam, the canal ring and the Jordaan are all within an easy and very pleasant walk.
Behind Central Station, east side · 8 min walk to Centraal
Just east of Central Station, 10 minutes on foot from the main station hall. NEMO Science Museum, the OBA library and the Maritime Museum are close by, around Oosterdok, and the old centre starts a 10 minute walk away.
Western IJ waterfront · 12 min walk to Centraal.
On the western IJ bank, a 12 minute walk from Central Station. The berth borders the Jordaan, which puts the Noordermarkt, the Nine Streets and the Anne Frank House all within a 20 minute stroll of your gangway.
A private tour means the day belongs to you and your companions. Your guide is with you from start to finish, the itinerary is built around your interests, and the pace is set by you. You see more, wait less, and spend your time ashore doing what actually matters to you, not what works for a coach of 40 people.
We specialise in guests arriving by river cruise, which means we understand the timing, the terminal, and what works in the time available.
The ship’s own excursions run to a fixed timetable with a full coach and often only scratch the surface of a location A private day tour is the alternative: you skip the queues and the crowds, go at your own pace, and reach the corners a group tour never does. On a longer Dutch itinerary, we can take you to other destinations too, from Kinderdijk to Rotterdam and Arnhem, so your whole time in the Netherlands is covered by one trusted local team.
Ready to plan your time ashore? Get in touch and we will tailor the day to your ship and your interests.
Most of the private tours we arrange for Riverside passengers are for guests who arrive in Amsterdam early before boarding, or who stay on after disembarkation. Once the cruise begins, the cruise programme takes over. The days in Amsterdam on either side of your voyage are when you have full flexibility to explore at your own pace, with your own guide and your own itinerary.
The Riverside Debussy docks at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) on the IJ waterfront, a short walk or taxi ride from the city centre hotels. The terminal is well signposted and easy to reach from Amsterdam Centraal.
Yes. We meet you at your hotel and take you to your starting point for the day, whether that is a museum, a market, a day-trip destination, or the ship itself. On your final day we can also arrange an onward transfer to the airport after your tour.
The options are broad. Popular choices for Riverside guests include a private canal cruise, the Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh Museum, a morning at the Albert Cuyp market, and day trips to Keukenhof (spring), Zaanse Schans, or Haarlem. We design the day around what you want to see, at a pace that suits your group.
We recommend booking as soon as your cruise and travel dates are confirmed, particularly for spring and summer. A private guide is arranged exclusively for your group, so availability is limited, especially around peak tulip season and school holidays.
